Starting from around 14:00 access to Copacabana by car gets closed.
All cars that have parked on the beach road are towed away in order to give the approx. 3 million people who fill the beach promenade at midnight unhindered access.
The only means of transport to Copacabana are now until 1.1. around 6:00 am the metro and public buses.
Everyone is preparing for a great and, not least because of the high police presence, peaceful festival.
However, especially in the middle of Copacabana from around 11:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., there is an incredible number of people in limited space. That is why we recommend our customers to rent an apartment with a view of the beach. This is a unique experience and around midnight, when the streets are packed with people, you can watch the great fireworks from the apartment.
It is important to know that both hotels and apartments are only offered for a minimum rental period on New Years. For apartments this is 5, 7 or even 10 nights. But it’s worth it. Both the days before and after the New Year have a very special atmosphere. You should have experienced this at least once in your life.
